Megan + Nick

Engagement | Grace, Idaho

Over four years ago my parents took a leap. They sold their dream home in Eden, Utah and bought property in Grace, Idaho. Change in states, culture, people, landscape and for my three youngest siblings a change in friends as well as schools. Megan was in high school, Marina in junior high and Nyler in elementary. They knew NO ONE. They’d moved from a place where our Grandparents (on both sides of the family) still lived, our parents had grown up, and some of our teachers had even taught our own parents in school... yeah we’ been there for a while! This was quite the change.

As Megan readjusted to this new country life- and bought a pair of boots :), there was one young man in particular that was constantly there to make her life easier. Mr. Nick. Nick Mickelson was kind, patient and always willing to help her in anyway. I remember calling to check in on the family on multiple occasions to hear that Nick was over helping Megan with math, or science or whatever the subject may be just because he noticed a need. I had a lot of respect for him then, lucky for us, we get to keep him! After high school graduation Nick headed off to Texas on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and Megan headed up to BYU-I.

Maybe I’m biased by Nick was apart of our family before he ever left. I have pictures of Mercedes snuggled up in his lap- we joked he would only have to wait about 12 years after he got home from his mission to be able to marry Mercedes. Perfect for us as parents, a spouse for our daughter that would have served a mission, graduated from college- he could have a Master’s if he wanted!- and more than likely had a house. What could be better! Nick left just after our little Bridger-man was born, and yep we have pictures of Nick holding that little guy too! I guess you could say we were sinking our hooks in pretty deep, that sounds kind of scary when you put it that way, but you get the idea!

Of course letters between the Meg’s and Nick stayed pretty constant throughout that two year period. Craig and I always joked- half seriously that we were going to have custom t-shirts made with Nick’s face, and the words “Team Nick” scrolled across.

Lucky for us, it didn’t take long for the pair to realize they wanted to be together when he got home...

Backtracking just a touch, on Mother’s Day (Nick came home in July), Megan & Mercedes went over to Vaughn & Rachelle’s to drop a card off and wish Rachelle a Happy Mother’s Day. As they were walking down the front steps to head home, Mercedes stopped, turned around to face Vaughn and Rachelle and in a very matter of fact voice said, “Just so you know, Megan is in love with Nick,” then she smiled and before she could unleash any other unplanned comments Megan quickly hurried her back to the car. I’m sure Megan was blushing, but apparently Mercedes felt the need to let them know how Megan felt. It must have worked because I’m happy to say Nick and Megan became engaged on September 8, 2019. Our excitement hasn’t weakened yet! These two will tie the knot in December and I will gain a new brother-in-law! Just so you can vicariously enjoy the excitement with us, I guess now is a good time to share a peek into their engagement session! Don’t be too jealous that we get to keep him! Hugs to each of you!
